Le Trappiste has now closed at the Altrincham site.

Our last night was fantastic, we were packed and it was
a great atmosphere.

We are very proud of what we have achieved over the past nine years, and we would like to thank you all for your magnificent support.

Altrincham no longer has a specialist Belgian beer bar, what it does have is a fantastic new venue with a great range of specialist beers.

Please visit us at The Brew House soon, at 18, Shaws Rd,

Le Trappiste hosts another successful beer festival
Our third annual beer festival took place over the August bank holiday weekend, despite competition from the weather (it is summer?) and the football, more beer was consumed than in previous years. We offerered a greater variety of beer than before and a greater quantity, the same goes for the cider. The foreign beers were very popular and we offered some real rareities, these will be on sale in the bar whilst stocks last.

I would like to thank everyone who attended for supporting the event, for without you it would not be possible.

If you have any comments regarding the festival then please get in touch, all opinions are valued.

Thank you all once again, and it's less than twelve months to the next one.

Regards,
Martin Matthews

Situated on Shaws Road in Altrincham next to the market, Le Trappiste operates as an authentic Belgian cafe bar.

Set over two levels, the decor is sophisticated yet relaxing - exposed brickwork and open fires for the colder days. Throughout are references to Belgian heroes including Tintin, Poirot and Jacques Brel.

In true Belgian fashion table service prevails with no standing permitted. A comprehensive beer menu lists and describes all the beers with new guest beers being available on a weekly basis, and of course all beers are served in their appropriate glasses.

In the summer tables are available outside - very popular on those warm summer evenings.

Booking is recommended at the weekend if you want to savour the experience as the congenial atmosphere attracts a regular clientele.

Belgium has to be the worlds most exotic beer country creating more styles and flavours than anywhere else.

Michael Jackson remarked 'No country has so many distinct styles of beer, no country has beers that are so complex in character, no country has so many individualistic brews... The respect reserved for wine in most countries is in Belgium accorded to beer'.

Fortunately but not by accident the diversity of Belgium's beer is matched by that of it's many wonderful bars such as A La Becasse in Brussels where waiters dressed in Monks' aprons serve the establishments own sweetish, slightly bitter Lambic in earthenware jugs to the table.

On the facade of the Maison des Brasseurs, in Brussels' Grand Place, you'll see the words:

It is by the grace of Saint Arnold and the experience of mankind that Heaven and Earth spawned that divine drink, Beer.

A statement which perhaps characterises the passion for beer in a country which produces 600+ of them.
At Le Trappiste, we offer a taste of this diversity and passion for Belgium's most prized possession.

Le Trappiste currently stocks 8 draught Belgian beers (No draft Leffe Blonde, Hoegaarden or the 'S' word guaranteed). These are supplemented by an extensive range of bottled beers, 156, The largest selection of Belgian Beers in the North West. Including all the Trappist beers, the famously sour and acidic lambic and Gueuze beers from Cantillon, Drie Fonteinen, Hanssens and other specialties, all served in the appropriate glass. In common with the best Belgian bars the beers are presented for the customer to pour personally.

Le Trappiste is committed to provide a constantly changing and increasing range of the very best Belgian beers!

Le Trappiste receives second Ambassadeur d'Orval award.

I recently travelled to the Monastery to receive this award where I was given a guided tour of the brewery and the ancient ruins of the Monastery. This was followed by a celebratory lunch in one of the Monasteries ancient dining halls. The presentation of the award was made by the Director of the Brewery, Monsieur Francoise de Harenne and Brother Xavier, Brother Xavier is responsible for overseeing the brewing of the beer.

We are privileged once again to receive this award for the second year running. We are the only establishment in the North West of England to hold the honour. I feel that it is recognition of our product knowledge, quality of service and firmly establishes Le Trappiste at the forefront of Belgian Beer in the North West of England.

At Le Trappiste we pride ourselves on our specialist range, with over 800 beers available in Belgium at any one time, we are proud to stock a choice of 170 including some of the rarest specialist beers currently available.

I also visited the Struise Brouwers and Rulles Breweries, where I met brewers Carlo and Gregory respectively. It was a fantastic trip and to be able to visit such esteemed breweries and actually taste the beers with the brewers was a real bonus. Expect to see some of these beers appearing over the next few weeks at Le Trappiste.

A new book recently published by the famous beer critic and author Tim Webb, confirms what we at Le Trappiste already knew. Tim Webb and Joris Pasttyn have listed the best 100 Belgian Beers to try before you die. Of their selection over the past three years at Le Trappiste we have had over 70 on sale and at present 40 are available, re-affirming the fact that Le Trappiste is the only place to be if you want the very best in Belgian Beers.

This book is available from CAMRA via their website, there is a copy behind the bar for customers to read, please ask at the bar and enjoy it whilst discussing your own favourites.
